Vovó (Portuguese for Grandma) is a versatile and hard wearing non-superwash yarn from Retrosaria Rosa Pomar. This sport weight yarn is made entirely from fine Portuguese wool, mainly from Campaniça sheep. It is a great choice for sweaters and cardigans intended for daily wear. (It is one of my favorite garment yarns to knit with -- ask me about patterns that work well for it!)
Vovó is made from the wool of free range sheep. Mulesing is not practiced in Portugal.

Why we love Retrosaria Rosa Pomar
Retrosaria Rosa Pomar is dedicated to the production and commercialization of yarns made from the wool of native Portuguese sheep breeds. All of their yarns are minimally processed. The wool is sustainably grown, scoured, milled, and dyed in Portugal. None of their yarns are superwash or bleached. Mulesing is not practiced in Portugal.
Rosa Pomar, founder of Retrosaria, studied History at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa and Visual Arts at Ar.Co – Centro de Arte e Comunicação Visual, also in Lisbon. Her work as a researcher and author focuses on traditional Portuguese textile practices, historical knitting techniques and the material culture of wool.
